The Grassroots Spotlight
Alan Ramsay volunteers as the State Director of Mississippi. We've included portions of a message he sent to Mississippi below.
My Christmas list has only one
thing on it this year – FairTax! Though I know not to look for it in my
stocking on Sunday, I do believe that the tax reform tide is turning and that
FairTax will be leading the way in 2012. The shenanigans in Washington are
getting more desperate by the day as our politicians try hard not to
acknowledge the 800 pound gorilla in the room. The economy is collapsing under
the weight of the tax code as it is being furiously manipulated by the
lobbyists and the politicians trying to survive the fallout of decades of abuse
at their own hands.
Sponsorship of the FairTax
is at an all time high. Every debate and discussion on real tax reform includes
the FairTax – even as some candidates and incumbents try to ignore
it or to pretend it is a Peter Pan dream of those who “don’t understand
how politics works.” The base of FairTax supporters has begin to swell as more
people begin to realize that the opportunity to eliminate the IRS is on the
horizon. People no longer look FairTaxers as ‘fringers’, but rather they
are asking to be educated on the details...
Knowing that ‘tax season’ follows
the ‘holiday season’ (ironic isn’t it) I hope you enjoy the next couple of
weeks. Maybe you can use some of the time off , if you can afford any, to begin
sorting through your receipts and reviewing your personal or business records so
that you can get ahead of the game and figure out how much more money you have
the pleasure of sending the IRS - or whether you get back money that you
have been loaning Uncle Sam for free. Either way, I know you are excited about
the season being here again. Just think, FairTax would eliminate this much
anticipated yearly waste of 6-8 billion man hours and 400-500 million dollars.
The FairTax in the News
Santa forced to
outsource; Christmas canceled - The
North Pole Gazette
…As Christmas lovers everywhere are sure to be devastated by
the news, there are still some pleased by the cancellation. Tax lobbyist and
year-round Christmas loather Mr. Grinch was overjoyed when the news hit,
saying, “I have been waiting for this all my life; it’s a dream come true. I’ve
tried old-fashioned sabotage schemes but nothing has worked. This year I got a
wonderfully awful idea. You want to know my great Grinchy trick to kill
Christmas and make money doing it?
Why, by lobbying of course!” Manipulation of the tax code
is, of course, big business and the most powerful of the power games in
Washington, where roughly half of all lobbyists are said to be tax lobbyists.
Others happy about the cancellation of Christmas include Black Bart, who was on
Santa’s naughty list and expecting coal anyway; old man Scrooge, who is looking
forward to another cold and cranky day of work; and foreign toy manufacturers,
who are sure to see sales skyrocket. Hope for Christmas still looms as the
president has ordered Congress to hold a special session next week to discuss
how to save Christmas.
