The FairTax Truth Squad: Recruits Needed

Correcting misconceptions, inaccurate statements and outright lies about the FairTax could be a fulltime job!

Do you ever wonder how something as simple, fair and transparent as the FairTax can be made to sound complex and sinister? Yet, it happens every day. One only needs to pay attention to blogs, interviews, editorials and news articles to find yet another individual or organization misstating some aspect of the FairTax.

Most of the time these missteps are just that - simple mistakes borne from a lack of knowledge. Other times, however, disparaging statements are made to intentionally create doubt, fear and anxiety about the validity and value of the FairTax replacing the income tax code. More often than not, individuals or organizations that have a vested interest in retaining the status quo make these types of statements.

So how does the FairTax campaign combat this kind of negativity? The answer is with facts – each time, every time - relentlessly.

In fact, we’re looking for a few volunteers who would like to be a part of an elite “FairTax Truth Squad.” These are individuals who have a computer with Internet access and have some free time to quickly scan news sites, blogs and various public opinion websites for inaccurate information being published about the FairTax.

We then need a handful of volunteers who have a good understanding of the FairTax to immediately refute any inaccurate statements with well-reasoned facts.

If you have some time, ability and a desire to ensure that American citizens everywhere hear the truth about the FairTax, please send a note to grassroots@fairtax.org with a subject line: Truth Squad. Provide your name, location and how you feel you can best contribute to the FairTax Truth Squad.

On to victory!

The FairTax in the News

Is the FairTax the Best Solution to Tax Reform?Forbes.com

…The FairTax is a tax on consumption. It abolishes income taxes and replaces that revenue with taxes collected every time an item or service is purchased.

The FairTax is not the “flat tax.” Many of us recall the 1996 presidential campaign mounted by Steve Forbes whose signature idea was the flat tax, meaning that all citizens with income would pay the same percentage. However, because the FairTax is dependent on consumption, an individual’s purchases, and not their income, would determine how much tax they pay.

If enacted, the FairTax proposal would completely change the federal income tax code from top to bottom...

FairTax advocates believe research shows that the FairTax would not result in greater deficits for the federal government. Instead, they suggest that federal revenues could increase under this system due to greater spending power, increased economic activity, and reduced ability to avoid taxation on the part of some of the wealthiest entities in our country…
