Americans For Fair Taxation

“Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.” - John F. Kennedy

How To Win "The Fight Of Their Life"

Congressman Rob Woodall  Dear Friends:

The special interests are gearing up for the fight of their life.  I’ve read about it in just about every Capitol Hill newspaper—from POLITICO to Roll Call to The Hill. One lobbyist said that “tax reform will be the hottest of all issues” in 2013, and it’s hard to disagree.  Why? Because all of those special interests will be looking to protect—and even expand—their valuable carve outs and loopholes.

That’s why we need to make our case for the FairTax now more than ever.  And if you think your voice isn’t making a difference, if you think those hours you spend on the phone isn’t moving the needle, if you think those emails and letters you write aren’t changing minds, I’m here to tell you they absolutely are.  In fact, if you read this year’s official House budget that was released just this week, you’ll find a special section dedicated to the FairTax, which we were able to include not because I’m persuasive but because you are.

If you want to see the results of your hard work, you should look at the latest list of FairTax cosponsors.  Just over the last couple weeks, several of my colleagues have contacted me and said they’ve heard the FairTax message loud and clear back home and want to be cosponsors immediately. Indeed, we’ve made tremendous strides over the past couple of years—records have been broken, milestones have been achieved, and thanks to your hard work, we have built real momentum heading into the tax reform debate.

However, despite all of our progress, we know that’s not enough.  If we want to make sure that every family in America gets to keep their whole paycheck and that every job creator is freed from the shackles of an oppressive tax code, we have to double down on our efforts to change the hearts and minds of the American people, one at a time.  With your help, I know we’ll succeed.

I am proud to be your partner in this fight for the FairTax, and for freedom.  As always, thank you for all you do.

Cosponsor 63 And A Volunteer Spotlight

Please welcome the 63rd FairTax® co-sponsor of HR 25! Congressman Rodney Alexander represents Louisiana's 5th district and officially signed onto the FairTax legislation earlier this week.

This latest cosponsor was a major victory for one grassroots activist who refused to accept, “no” as a final answer.

Douglas Opbroek, Louisiana volunteer State Director, wants every FairTaxer to know that regular contact with Congressional offices, and especially establishing a relationship with the Representative’s tax aide, is key success factor for every FairTax supporter. “Weekly calls to Congressman Alexander showed his staff that the FairTax was extremely important and moved them to take the next step to co-sponsor the FairTax bill.”

Have you seen this link with all the House FairTax cosponsors? It’s more proof that you are making a difference. Every call, letter, Facebook post, email and news article pushes us ever closer to defeating Washington special interests, giving Americans their paycheck back and liberating our economy from the shackles of the income tax.

Thank you for standing with us!

The FairTax Act In The News

Fair Tax Act would help root out corruption The Washington Times

…This is how entrenched politicians maintain their hold on power. They manipulate the tax code to reward those contributing to their re-election campaigns. Without the income tax, they would not have this tool to play the “scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” game.

There is a bill in Congress that would rectify this anti-virtuous system. It is the Fair Tax Act. It takes taxation out of the hands of politicians. We must eliminate this corrupt system we have in place before we are completely ruined. Another principle from long ago says, “Righteousness exalts a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Tell Kind to support Fair Tax concept - Courier-Life

This year, we observe the 100th anniversary of the income tax (the 16th Amendment). In 1913, only a very small percentage of wage earners were subject to the tax. As time has gone by, practically all of us have come under expanded provisions, including withholding and payroll taxes.

What started so innocuously in 1913 has become a dead weight on our economy. President John F. Kennedy said, “the largest single barrier to full employment of our manpower ... and to a higher rate of economic growth, is federal income taxes.”

In an era of sluggish economic activity and depressed federal revenues, Congress is turning a critical eye to the income tax. Right now we have several “fixes” vying for the spotlight, including tweaking the current system, various flat tax plans, VATs and the Fair Tax…

Your representative, Ron Kind, has a critical role to play in these discussions, sitting as he does on the House Ways and Means Committee, where all tax reform must start. Ask him to support the Fair Tax and report it out of committee for congressional debate.
