“Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters
cannot be trusted in large ones either.” - Albert Einstein
In the early 60’s, Gomer Pyle was
a goofy but lovable fellow on the Andy Griffith show. The Pyle character later
moved to a spinoff series, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Like many kids in the 60’s I
loved the characters of Mayberry, most especially Gomer; so much so I named my
Of course, I came to regret that
every time mom and I blew through the neighborhood in a ’55 Chevy yelling at
the top of our lungs, “Gomer” because the mutt had yet again escaped the fenced
yard in search of hot chicken on the run.
Pyle had several phrases like “Shaz-aam”,
“Gaw-lee” and who could forget, “Surprise-Surprise-Surprise!” My very favorite
though was when Gomer was confronted with an ethical dilemma or heard someone telling
an untruth. In typical Jim Nabors fashion, he would dramatically set forth with
“Shame, Shame, Shame,” - which brings me to TX Rep. Lamar Smith (TX-21).
For years, Rep. Smith’s constituents
have written to him expressing their support for the FairTax® legislation. We know because they send us a copy of their
letter. They also send us Rep. Smith’s canned ham form response, which his staff dutifully mails out
without bothering to determine if the contents are factually accurate. If Rep.
Smith or his staff would bother to read the actual language in HR 25, or the
follow-up letters his constituents send, (that provide factual answers to his
inaccurate assertions) he would have long ago ceased with this ridiculous
Yet he persists. Rep. Smith, if
you don’t want to support HR 25, come
right out and tell your constituents the truth, but please stop hiding
behind trivialized statements like “Americans are overtaxed” and “the IRS too
frequently intrudes into citizens’ lives”, then add a plethora of untruths
about the only legislation before Congress that will provide simple and fair
taxation for everyone, eliminate the IRS and abolish the 16th
Amendment – the FairTax® Plan. I say, “Shame, Shame, Shame.”
Sadly, this scenario repeats
itself across Congress every single day.
To be clear, this is not a Republican
problem - it’s not a Democrat problem. It’s a problem with the electorate not
understanding when they are being played by the very people they elect to
With continued IRS revelations – this
week we heard the IRS exposed
thousands of Americans’ social security numbers - more and more Americans
are now demanding the elimination of the IRS and the Repeal of the 16th
Amendment. Yet, when they plead with their Representative to do something about
it – like implement the only legislation before Congress that will eliminate
the IRS, they are sent packing with a bloated, canned ham form letter. Shame, Shame, Shame!
There is a way to solve this
problem and it doesn’t involve blaming Washington. It is much simpler than that
and begins by looking in the mirror.
Does your Representative listen
to (really listen to) and represent YOU? Or, does your Representative send you bloated, canned ham form letters and
responses? If so, it’s time to stop complaining, stop pointing the finger and elect
yourself a new representative. Election Day 2014 is around the corner. If you
don’t, and continue to send Representatives to Washington who ignore and
marginalize your concerns, then “Shame, Shame, Shame.”
Until next week,

The FairTax Act In The News
By Ignoring The
FairTax, Phil Gramm Offers A Tax Plan For GOP Decline – Forbes.com
…The FairTax would abolish the IRS, and replace our current
individual and corporate income taxes, capital gains tax, payroll taxes, and
death tax with a simple national retail sales tax. And, while Democratic
Senator Max Baucus and Republican Congressman Dave Camp have merely promised to
“take up” fundamental tax reform, FairTax legislation has already been written,
vetted, thoroughly analyzed, and introduced into Congress. In fact, the FairTax
has 68 co-sponsors in the House and 7 in the Senate today.
The Washington establishment dismisses the FairTax as
impractical, but it is, in fact, the only fundamental tax reform plan that can
generate sufficient public enthusiasm to overcome the resistance of the “inside
the beltway” crowd and pass. Remember, our massive and very powerful D.C.
lobbying industry gets half of its revenues from gaming our byzantine tax code
on behalf of special interests. The lobbyists like our tax system just the way
Let’s look at what the FairTax offers that could get voters
sufficiently excited to demand its passage, and contrast these points with
Senator Gramm’s recommendations.
First and foremost the FairTax would eliminate the IRS, and
with it IRS oppression. As the latest scandal has shown, the IRS is a threat to

Nordvig: Abolish IRS, Income Tax – MoneyNews.com
Larry Nordvig, executive director of the
Richmond Tea Party, advocates abolishment of the Internal Revenue Service,
income taxes and business taxes.
"This country did very well until 1913 without the IRS and without an
income tax, so it can be done, it has been done, and we were more profitable
before the IRS came along," he told Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview.
"I would replace it with the Fair Tax System. That's the only system right
now that would completely abolish the IRS."
Nordvig's Fair Tax System essentially amounts to a sales tax. "You pay
your taxes at the cash register," he said. "It's a lot [of] what the
founding fathers had in mind when they put excise and tariffs as a form of
taxation in the Constitution."..
