"Christmas means so much because of one special Child. But Christmas also reminds us that all children are special, that they are gifts from God, gifts beyond price that mean more than any presents money can buy." - Ronald Reagan

Christmas Card

Next week, the majority of the world will pause to gather with family, friends and other loved ones to celebrate Christmas, Hanukah and the anticipated New Year. For most, this is a joyous time of year. For some, it is a time of extreme loneliness and loss – loss of a job, loss of a home or loss of a loved one.

The year I graduated from college, I moved to Los Angeles, CA to work for then-Governor Ronald Reagan’s political action committee. Six months later, I found my meager salary didn’t cover a plane ticket home for the holidays. And, I didn’t have enough vacation time to cover the minimum 4 days necessary to drive to Oklahoma. So, I stayed in my little apartment in Los Angeles – the few people I knew having left town for their own family celebrations.

For the first time in my life, I was completely and utterly alone on Christmas. Needless to say, it was a very sobering, excruciatingly lonely and in retrospect, extremely enriching holiday.

As we go about our holiday festivities, I encourage you to reach out to those who may be alone, hurting or who simply need a word of encouragement.

2013 has been an exciting year for the FairTax® campaign. 2014, and the vote before the Committee on Ways and Means, is on the horizon.

But right now, take a moment and focus on your family and this special time of year. Enjoy the warmth of recalling fond memories of Christmas’ past and wherever your journey takes you, may you and yours have a most abundant and blessed holiday.

Until next time,
