In recent weeks our members have expressed concerns about the impact of the midterm elections on the FairTax. In response, it is important to understand FairTax.org exists to secure the passage of the FairTax Plan and not to endorse or advocate the election of a specific candidate or political party. First and foremost, the FairTax was specifically designed to benefit all Americans, regardless of political party affiliation. Second, FairTax.org is a bipartisan really a nonpartisan organization with the objectives of educating both citizens and their elected officials about the merits of the FairTax and advocating the enactment of the FairTax Plan which includes the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
As we all know, the truth is a frequent casualty in the heat of an election campaign. This year has proven no different. Opponents of the FairTax have intentionally misrepresented the FairTax Plan and its impact on the economy. However, our FairTax Rapid Response Team has been effective in countering those who choose to distort the FairTax in congressional contests where such mendacity has occurred. We will continue the aggressive pursuit of our agenda no matter which party retains or gains a majority of seats in the House or Senate or which candidates retain or lose their seats. We do expect that an overwhelming majority, if not all of the supporters of the FairTax, will be returned to Congress by significant margins.
No matter which party or individual is in power, our mission and our objective will remain the same. FairTax.org will not ignore the political realities of the midterm election. Plans are in place to educate Members of Congress and their key staff about the FairTax. Facts are stubborn things and our arsenal of research, combined with the grassroots push and our D.C. staff will dispel the disinformation from the campaigns of the opponents of true tax reform. In addition, H.R. 25 and S. 25 will be reintroduced in the House and Senate when Congress reconvenes in January. You should also expect to see several new economic studies and updates of established studies that refute recent criticism of the FairTax. FairTax.org has brought in key personnel who will focus on growing the grassroots membership to support the forceful advocacy of the FairTax in a series of educational sessions on Capitol Hill.
We also expect that taxes will likely be a front burner issue in the new Congress and the 2008 Presidential election campaign which has already begun. At present, tax reform is somewhat a dormant issue because the economy is growing and tax reform has been confused with tax reduction. However, it appears that advocates of tax increases may be in control of key committees next year. The debate over tax increases will reignite the debate about the need for true tax reform. FairTax.org is well positioned in both the House and Senate and among our grassroots membership to elevate the FairTax Plan to the national stage. Both parties will need a tax reform plan which benefits the American people. The people will no longer accept “business as usual.” The FairTax is the only proposal that will allow Members of Congress from all points on the political spectrum to coalesce behind a comprehensive plan.
For those of you whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the FairTax shall become law. This is where we stand today and reflects our commitment to the enactment of the FairTax no matter the outcome of the midterm elections.
