On September 19, 2022 FAIRtax picked up its 31st sponsor, freshman Congressman Bob Good, who represents the Fifth Congressional District of Virginia. Here is what Congressman Good says about the bill he cosponsored:

“The Fair Tax Act would simplify our tax code, and begin to tax Americans on what they consume rather than what they earn. Passing the Fair Tax would transform the American tax code from a mandatory and convoluted system to a voluntary and straightforward one. It would also encourage and reward savings and investment. 
 
“This approach stands in stark contrast to the Biden Administration which wants to weaponize the IRS against every-day Americans by providing the agency with $80 billion in new funding for 87,000 new agents to search under the couch cushions of hard-working taxpayers. The Fair Tax Act rejects this oppressive expansion of bureaucratic power. It would save billions in compliance, make the IRS as we know it unnecessary, and permit all Americans to pay taxes based on how much they choose to spend.”

The Congressman’s Fifth Congressional District runs down the middle of the state west of Washington D.C. and Richmond, down to the North Carolina state line. The district is Virginia’s largest in area, being larger than six states including Vermont, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, and New Hampshire.

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Congressman Good won reelection and will take his seat in the 118th Congress. We thank the Congressman for his support of the FAIRtax.
