JIM DUFFIE TAKES A WORKING VACATION

How can Jim Duffie be on a working vacation if he is retired? Like many other “retired” FAIRtax-ers, our Georgia State Director is not really retired. He is indefatigable when it comes to the FAIRtax. For Jim a vacation is rarely just a vacation.

During the dog days of August in Georgia, Jim and his wife, Mary, needed to take a break and drive to a cooler climate. Michigan provided them that opportunity. The trip enabled Jim and Mary to complete Mary’s bucket list of visiting all fifty states. The trip also had a genealogical component to it, including the area where Mary’s grandmother and great grandmother were born and lived in the mid to late 1800’s. The itinerary continued to the Upper Peninsula and to a reunion of the crewmen of the submarine on which Jim served from 1964 to 1968. If you have ever visited a submarine, you know that a submarine is no place for those with claustrophobia.

When Jim goes on vacation, he hits FAIRtax targets of opportunity. The target here was the district office of Glenn Grothman, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Grothman represents the Sixth Congressional District of Wisconsin.

On August 26, 2022, Jim met with Grothman’s policy director, Chris Grawien. Jim reports that he and Chris spent about an hour discussing the FAIRtax and politics in general. Chris was very much in tune with our efforts and the FAIRtax initiative, and he would get further information to the representative.

We plan to hand off the follow-up to this meeting to FAIRtax volunteer Bob Martin to encourage Grothman to co-sponsor the bill.

I would love to hear from you about anything you do in your area to make contact with your elected representative.
